Kirkcaldy is a town in Fife, which is situated on the east coast of Scotland, lying approximately 11 miles north of the city of Edinburgh, and 27 miles south-west of Dundee. It is home to around 50,000 inhabitants, many of whom work in the service sector, with 34% of the local population being educated to degree level.
One of the biggest service sector employers in the area is NHS Fife, although the town's largest employer is MGt Plc. Others of note include R Hutchinson Ltd, Adam Smith College, and Forbo-Flooring.
There are four key business parks in Kirkcaldy: John Smith, Hayfield, Mitchelston, and Randolph. The town's harbour was also reopened to cargo ships in late 2011, and thanks to a £800,000 freight facilities grant, is now able to handle fast delivery from coastal ships.
Kirkcaldy's unemployment figures for 2011 stand at 16%, which are similar to those for its neighbour, Dundee. A town regeneration project was completed in 2011, and it is hoped that more high-end retailers, investors, and new residents will be attracted to the area as a result, boosting current employment levels.
Recruitment agencies frequently list positions in Kirkcaldy, with the majority seeking staff for the public sector, retail and catering industry, financial and business services, and manufacturing sectors.
