Principals and school leaders play a vital role in delivering the vision of the department. By pursuing this role, you will be critical to improving the educational outcomes of students in schools and having a major influence on developing the quality of teaching and learning in Queensland state schools.
The recruitment and selection of principals is critical to ensure quality teaching and learning outcomes in Queensland state schools.
Changes have been made to the department's recruitment and selection for Queensland State School Principals. These changes are based on three underlying principles:
From January 2014, principal vacancies will be advertised individually on the Smart Jobs and Careers website.
School Parents and Citizen Associations and/or school council have direct involvement in the selection of a suitable principal to meet the needs of their specific school.
Principals who have requested relocation will have their suitability considered by a panel comprising of departmental representatives and a third person selected in consultation with the school's P and C or council. If the panel decides there are no suitable relocation applicants, the vacancy may be filled through an advertised process.
Principals are still able to be considered for relocation after completion of their regional service.

The Internet Vacancy Index (IVI) rose by 0.1% in February 2017, the fifth consecutive monthly increase. The Index is now 2.2% above the level recorded a year ago, and is 19.6% (or 27,400 advertisements) above the October 2013 low point.
Next month's Vacancy Report will be released on Wednesday 26 April 2017.

From March 2016, the Blue Mountains region was amalgamated with the Bathurst and Central West NSW region to create the Blue Mountains, Bathurst and Central West Region NSW.
The IVI is the only publicly available source of detailed data on online vacancies, including for around 350 occupations (at all skill levels), as well as for all states/territories and 37 regions. The IVI is based on a count of online job advertisements newly lodged on SEEK, CareerOne and Australian JobSearch during the month. As such, the IVI does not reflect the total number of job advertisements in the labour market as it does not include jobs advertised through other online job boards, employer websites, word of mouth, in newspapers, and advertisements in shop windows. The IVI also does not take account of multiple positions being advertised in a single job advertisement.
In response to the growing popularity of the Internet Vacancy Index, the Department of Employment releases the monthly Vacancy Report and associated data files by email to frequent users. If you would like to be added to the mailing list please send an email to email@example.com
