Visa Compliance Manager

We currently have the following vacancy within the Academic Registry. 

We are looking for a pro-active individual to play a leading role in the operations of our International Visa Office during an exciting period in the University’s development.

This post is responsible for ensuring that full compliance with Tier 4 and UKVI regulations is developed and maintained throughout the University.  You will be expected to take the lead on the administration of our monitoring and reporting duties as a Tier 4 Sponsor.  You will also contribute to the International Visa Office’s aim to provide an excellent level of service to international students throughout their journey at the University of Law.

The post-holder will be required to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the Tier 4 regulations, as well as other relevant immigration routes such as Short-Term Study and Visitor.  You should also be familiar with the process for issuing Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) and have experience of advising international students in a HE environment or similar.

The successful candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to advise and support students and staff across the University.  You must also be capable of working on your own initiative as well as part of the wider team. Strong IT skills particularly in all key Microsoft Office applications and experience of using student databases are essential.

Mental Health Advisor

You will be providing expert advice and guidance to staff supporting students presenting with mental health issues across our eight centres.  Promoting mental wellbeing to both staff and students, you will also be responsible for increasing awareness and staff training. A key part of the role will be to evaluate and formulate plans with students experiencing mental health issues.  

You will be educated to at least degree level and hold a mental health or psychological therapy qualification.  It is essential that you are able to prioritise and plan, have an understanding of safeguarding and the ability to develop effective working relationships with stakeholders.

Student Association Clubs, Societies and Events Officer

Supported by the Association’s President and Administrator, you will be responsible for promoting the Association at Induction and Freshers’ events, in establishing a Student Association Events Committee in each centre and maintaining the Association’s website.

You will encourage students to set up and join clubs and societies across all centres, and be familiar with BUCS and encourage student participation in sporting competitions. You will also be responsible for organising cross-centre competitions, including an annual flagship event.

You will have experience of liaising and speaking with people at a variety of levels within an organisation.  You will also have experience of delivering presentations.

You will have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, be welcoming of change and have a real desire to continue the development of the Association and making a difference to the student population at the University.

You will provide support across a range of issues including low-level emotional distress or hardship as well as those more specifically affecting international students, e.g. understanding regulations relating to their study in the UK. You will demonstrate cultural, equality and diversity awareness in providing professional and confidential support to international students, liaising with institutional and external partners (making referrals where appropriate). You will be responsible for organising engagement and retention focused workshops and events, suitable and appropriate for the international market and will also participate in inductions and open days, recruitment activities and wellbeing events. You will use your initiative, drive and enthusiasm to develop the service and resources available.

You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and ideally have a counselling qualification or similar. You will have experience of assisting international students/clients within a support-centred department in an educational or welfare environment.  Experience of working with vulnerable people is essential. You will have excellent customer service and communication skills – proficiency in another language would be an advantage.  Through your experience, you will be able to demonstrate empathy and an ability to build rapport quickly with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

VLE/Blackboard (ELITE) Administrator

You will be responsible for the day to day implementation and management of the University’s Programmes on our Virtual Learning Environment and for providing customer support when necessary.

In this role you will ensure that course structures are built, documented and checked against our quality assurance systems with any issues being highlighted and resolved; this will also involve assisting in the development, documentation and implementation of VLE course testing procedures to support the demands of an expanding system.

You will actively liaise with a variety of stakeholders to ensure that any programme requirements and approved system changes are implemented; this may also involve training system users and designers in the use of the VLE.

For this role you will need to hold a degree (or equivalent) relevant to the role. You will be highly experienced in scheduling project activities, workloads or deadlines and be able to demonstrate good organisational skills. A logical and structured approach to work accompanied by an attention to detail is crucial as is the ability to liaise with a variety of people and influence their working practices.
