Total e&p nigeria ltd job vacancies

Graduate Process Engineer

University Attended: The University of Aberdeen

Degree Obtained: MEng Chemical Engineering First Class Honours

The TOTAL E&P UK Ltd graduate programme appealed to me due to the opportunity to work across various departments within the company and the possibility to progress a career abroad on completion of the graduate scheme.

My Time So Far At TOTAL

My first year at TOTAL E&P UK Ltd involved working in the Operations Department providing site support for Alwyn and Dunbar. My daily duties involved:

• Process monitoring using PI software and platform reporting tools

• Sizing calculations on equipment such as compressors, pumps and PSVs

• Acting as proponent engineer for class 2 modifications

I have visited the North Alwyn platform where I spent time with the operations team and conducted surveys for proposed modifications. This allowed me to get physically involved with the work I was progressing; giving me an insight to what is actually required and invaluable hands on experience.

As part of the graduate programme I will complete a number of rotational placements. I have recently started my first rotation at St Fergus gas plant and will be based here for three months. So far I have gained experience working in the control room which has given me an understanding of the numerous communication links with the Offshore Installations, the National Grid and outside shift teams. I have learnt about the implications that offshore has on the gas plant operation such as: trips, pigging, fluctuation in gas nominations, shutdowns and MeOH injection.

Out of the office, I have taken part in one of TOTAL's STEM events where I demonstrated the concept of pipeline pigging to school children at the Big Bang Science and Technology fair in Glasgow. It was an excellent opportunity to share the knowledge I have gained so far of the Oil and Gas industry to an entirely different and younger audience. This tested my ability to explain difficult concepts in a simple manner which can be understood by even those as young as 10 years old.

Aberdeen offers a number of open spaces including Duthie Park which has recently been renovated and now has a beautiful garden you can walk around. There are many hiking routes just outside the city, and the possibility to take part in winter sports with three ski resorts nearby. Total also offer a Sports and Social Club which promotes, organises and assists with social activities including discounted cinema and theatre tickets, aswell as bargain holiday packages abroad.

To anyone considering the graduate programme with TOTAL E&P UK Ltd I say grab it with both hands. This large, well recognised operator has so much to offer and the chance to experience all aspects of the oil and gas industry with guidance along the way. The knowledge and skills gained working across various departments over the three years is truly invaluable and will put you in a good position towards achieving your desired career in the future.
