BRIGHTON, HOVE & SUSSEX SCHOOLS’ ALLIANCE SCHOOL DIRECT PLACES 2017 – 2018
Schools Direct Allocations Partner Schools 2017 – 2018
At Patcham High we are offering 4 Schools Direct places next academic year. The Schools Direct training route is very similar to the PGCE however you do spend slightly longer in your main school.
This pathway is often preferred by candidates that have industry, or previous relevant work, experience. All applicants apply through UCAS and Hove Park School is the local Lead School.
A real benefit of the Schools Direct route is that you are more in control of your main school placement. Although you must still apply via UCAS, your application is passed on to all schools with available places and then schools will call candidates in to interview. The candidate then choses the school they wish to train in.
During the interview process at Patcham High, you will receive a tour of the school, teach a small group an activity, and take part in an interview with the Headteacher, Head of Department and Professional Tutor.
All the Schools Direct places below are subject to you meeting the entry requirements set by the universities. Please see their relevant websites for more information, and you will need to be interviewed, and accepted, by the university.
In addition to this you must pass the Professional Skills Tests prior to commencing the course.
We welcome you popping in for a chat or to gain some school experience.
For more information on our teacher training process, please see http://www.patchamhigh.brighton-hove.sch.uk/learning/teacher-training/
All our places are for the ‘Tuition’ or ‘Training’ Route, they are not the ‘Salaried’ route, however there are bursaries available. (See links below for more details)
For more information on routes into teaching see http://www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching
All our Schools Direct places are with Brighton University for more information see http://about.brighton.ac.uk/education/study/itt/school_direct/index.php?PageId=101

We are a co-education state maintained comprehensive school for 11-16 year olds offering a modern and diverse curriculum. We give students the opportunity to explore their interests, achieve academic success and develop well-rounded characters to go forth into the world and make a valuable contribution to all our futures.
Varndean School was built in 1926, on its current site looking out to sea, due to the determination of a forward thinking headmistress. Miss Ethel Ellis worked hard to secure the new site for our school and ensure it was built with the idea of providing academic excellence alongside the development of students' characters, fostering a passion for art, culture, science and sport. At Varndean school we still adhere to those aspirations for our students.
More Varndean School history.
We give students the opportunity to explore their interests, achieve academic success and develop well rounded characters to go forth into the world and make a valuable contribution to all our futures.
We have a four school pastoral system that fosters smaller caring communities, who learn and develop together, in the context of a larger school with shared facilities and activities. These schools focus on charity, community and competition and we ask our students to be positive, polite and prepared in all they do.
More on the four school system.
Our school motto is Challenge and Pride, we seek to challenge ourselves and take pride in our achievements.
